Affordable financing for
California small businesses
Funding business dreams,
revitalizing communities
Connect with a Local Lender
Since 2019, DreamSpring has provided the funding and support that helps California small businesses make their dreams come true. We know that the Golden State's vast economy runs on small businesses of every kind. The day-to-day reality of running an agricultural enterprise in Fresno looks different from launching a tech startup in San Jose or opening a retail space in Los Angeles.
We get that. We also know that civic-minded innovators in Sacramento and community builders in Oakland need a financial partner who looks beyond a simple credit score. That is why we offer affordable small business loans for growth — even if you’ve been overlooked by traditional banks before. Our mission is to increase access to California small business loans and resources, so that every entrepreneur in the state has the opportunity to build a lasting legacy.

How to start a business in California
- File your Articles of Organization or Articles of Incorporation with the California Secretary of State. If you operate under a different name, you must file a Fictitious Business Name (DBA) statement with your local County Clerk.
- Secure your 9-digit EIN from the IRS. You will need this to open a business bank account and process payroll.
- Register with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) for a seller’s permit if you plan to sell goods. You will also need to register with the Employment Development Department (EDD) for employer payroll taxes if you plan to hire a team.
- California has complex regulatory requirements that vary heavily by city and industry. Use the CalGold permit assistance tool to easily identify the specific local, state, and federal permits required for your operations.
-
Once your registration is complete, you can apply for a small business loan or a line of credit to get your operations running. You can also explore our Business Resource Library for free templates, videos, and articles to help your California business strike gold.
